Senior RF Engineering Technician job# 07027

Under limited supervision the Senior Engineering Technician will be responsible for supporting all facets of carrying a product design from conception through release to manufacturing. This individual will assist with the design, evaluation and documentation of analog and digital electronic RF and Video communication equipment and be capable of soldering, assembly and construction of electromechanical models.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform job function is a safe manner and in conjunction with established company safety guidelines and policies.
  • Lay out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify developmental digital, analog, RF and Video communication equipment and systems, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, basic mathematics, electronic and electrical testing. Adjust, calibrate, align, and modify circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance.
  • Assembles experimental circuitry (breadboard) or complete prototype models according to engineering instructions and technical manuals based on knowledge of electronic systems and components. Recommend changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
  • Work with engineers to develop new product assembly processes, bills of materials, drawings and test procedures.
  • Under minimal guidance from an engineer, design basic analog and digital circuitry, such as; linear and switching power supplies, audio amplifiers, clock circuits and counters.
  • Set up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production models of digital, analog, RF and Video communication equipment.
  • Write basic technical reports and develop charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system operating characteristics, conditions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations for consideration by engineers in broader determinations affecting system design and laboratory procedures.
  • Prepare equipment test sequence designs from oral directions or from discussion of what functions or processes are needed in relation to equipment testing.
  • Work with production and quality control staff on material, technical and assembly issues during transition periods to insure that new and existing products are manufacturable.
  • Operate drills and other general machine tools to fabricate prototype models and custom test equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory experiments and test results. Sustain engineering lab functions and materials in terms of tools, supplies, hardware and test equipment calibration.
  • Operate under general supervision and may provide technical assistance to production test technicians and other DTC employees. Independent judgment is required in accomplishing work objectives. Work is subject to review through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

    Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate's degree (ASET) or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school in a technical discipline; or five - seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from engineers, company employees and customers.

    Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to work with basic math, algebra and trigonometry as it appears in the field of electronics.

    Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with the following software packages or equivalent manufactures of similar software functions; schematic capture (OrCad), Drawing (Auto Cad), Manufacturing MRP (Syteline), Project Management (MS Project), Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Power Point (MS Office), Internet Browser (MS Explorer), Photo Editing (Adobe Elements).

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Associates degree in ET, or equivalent
  • IPC-A-610 Class 2 Certified or past certification or equivalent training
  • IPC J-STD-0001 or past certification or equivalent training

    Other Skills and Abilities:
    Knowledge of:
  • ISO-9000 Quality Standards

  • The methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction, test, repair and operation of electronic equipment
