Under general supervision performs a variety of assembly
operations using a complete range of hand tools and/or
other production equipment on assemblies , subassemblies,
major assemblies and cabinetry for hardware and systems
using assembly drawings, visual aids, wiring lists and
verbal/written instructions to assemble/rework electromechanical
assemblies, electronic components, subassemblies, products,
or systems. All skills must meet ANSI-J-STD-001 or standards
as amended.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- NOTE: Due to the varying production
requirements, this position may require soldering
skills to Military specifications in addition to mechanical/assembly
skills or may require only mechanical/assembly skills.
This is to be determined by the Manager/Supervisor
based on the tasks and production needs.
- Must follow all current industry standard ESD handling
procedures and those as documented by DTC.
- Follows directions and understands the process and
procedures involved in the assembly of complex assemblies.
- Selects and uses assembly and wiring tools such
as manual, pneumatic or electric hand tools.
- Interfaces with management, engineering and other
manufacturing employees.
- Performs simple to complex rework and assembles
complex assemblies and have excellent solder techniques.
- Perform job function in a safe manner and in conjunction
with established company safety guidelines/policies.
- Hand solder surface mount and thru hole components
using microscope.
- Crimp, stakes, screws, bolts, rivets, welds, solders,
cements, press fits, or performs similar operations
to join or secure parts in place.
- Mounts assembled components, such as transformers,
resistors, transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits,
and sockets, on chassis panel.
- Point to point wiring using wiring lists and or
interconnect diagrams. Connects component lead wires
to printed circuit or routes and connects wires between
individual component leads and other components, connectors,
terminals, and contact points.
- Installs finished assemblies or subassemblies in
cases and cabinets.
- Assembles and attaches hardware, such as caps, clamps,
knobs, and switches, to assemblies.
- Performs intermediate assembly tasks, such as potting,
encapsulating, sanding, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing,
stamping, etching, engraving and color coding parts
and assemblies.
- Tends machines that press, shape, or wind component
parts. Use of drill press and other small electrical
hand held tooling.
- Adjusts or trims materials from components to achieve
specified electrical or dimensional characteristics.
- Performs online go-not-go testing and inspection
to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications
and standards (may utilize a microscope). Report all
defects using /non conformances using the Corrective
Action Request form (CAR).
- Accurately record daily time sheet/job orders.May
provide training to other or lesser skilled employees
in one or multiple assembly operations.
- May provide work direction to other employees as
directed by supervisor or other member of management.
- May cross train in the stockroom area to pull and
assemble kits. During this time additional lifting
and climbing on a ladder may be required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
- A.A. degree or technical certificate; or 5+ years
related experience and/or training; or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
1. Minimum 5 years experience assembling electro/mechanical
hardware as stated in “general” above,
preferably to surface mount and thru hole / SMT; Mechanical
assembly such as Panel and Cable Assembly and wiring
and harness etc..
2. Able to pass soldering test and be certified to
Mil-Std-2000 or ANSI-J-STD-001 as required. (See note
above).
3. Must possess excellent assembly blueprint reading
skills. .
4. Must have excellent communication skills.
5. Knowledge of drawings, parts lists, engineering
orders, wiring lists and shop order.
6. Must be familiar with all military standards.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual
should have a basic knowledge of manufacturing software.
MS Office Suite knowledge preferred.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry
out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram
form. Ability to deal with problems involving several
concrete variables in standardized situations.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and
to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
Lanaguage Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as
safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,
and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers
or employees of organization.
Other Skills and Ability:
- Ability to work overtime to meet department and
business goals.
- Ability to work under a microscope.
