New Product Buyer Planner job# 07047
Coordinates activities involved with the planning and procuring of goods and services for new & modified products. Under general supervision, be responsible for planning and purchasing materials to support DTC new production introduction schedules. Instituting on going vendor management programs. Review MRP demand, plan items, negotiate and purchase with optimal advantage to DTC. Drive Preferred Parts Selection List (PPSL) process with engineering. Ensure positive new product support with high level interaction with DTC engineering staff. Proven ability to develop high new supply chain network to support ongoing business growth

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Pro-active involvement as a cooperative, active member in the new product development teams ensuring a seam-less transition from design concept through general availability.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate all activities related to New Product introduction into Manufacturing. Work closely with Program Manager and Engineering staff to facilitate the upfront planning and material scheduling required to support new product development.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in master scheduling, inventory planning, work order management and strategic materials outsourcing.
  • Ability to evaluate trade off between economic order quantities, price and inventory investment.
  • Effectively negotiates price and terms and delivery with suppliers.
  • Leads the planning process to ensure new product demand is accurate.
  • Develops processes to support the timely delivery of materials and products through the entire supply chain.
  • Work closely with Engineering in the creation of bills of materials and family trees to assure proper inventory alignment with requirements. Update suppliers with pending ECO’s to minimize potential obsolete inventory during development phase.
  • Develop and execute plans to support material requirements for new products.
  • Provide ongoing, detailed material status during development stage.
  • Support production operations and manage builds at contract manufacturers as needed. Includes PO coverage for long lead time parts to avoid shortages during transition.
  • Participation in material disposition analysis.
  • Support engineering development cost activities by providing price and lead-times for new parts as well as launching PO’s to cover the schedule.
  • Input to the Preferred Parts Supplier List (PPSL) as required.
  • Manages item master for assigned commodities. Ensures lead-times and other critical parameters are updated to reflect changes in the supply base and component usage patterns. Purchase sustaining parts against MRP as needed.
  • Performs critical material tracking and recovery to ensure deliverables are achieved.
  • Coordinates with suppliers to ensure critical material shortages are actively tracked and resolved.
  • Acts as a liaison between suppliers and engineering to clarify and/or correct material specifications. Manage schedule issues (eg. allocation) & sample requests.
  • Manages supplier performance (Price, Delivery, Quality) and initiates corrective actions, where appropriate.
  • Takes an active role in New Product development efforts with a focus on leveraging existing suppliers/preferred parts and lowering total acquisition costs.
  • Completes multiple tasks and assignments within department time lines and objectives.
  • Manages purchase order or contract cancellation with suppliers as necessary.

    Education and/or Experience:
  • 5+ years buying/ planning experience in a high tech manufacturing environment, with proven cost reduction and quality improvement skills.
  • Experience with instituting vendor management programs (e.g. KanBan & bonded inventory).

    Highly Desirable Experience with:
  • Experience in prototype procurement with Contract Manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP Systems.

    Computer Skills:
  • Experience with MS Office software required (MS Word, Excel, Project)
  • Experience with planning and purchasing in an ERP/MRP system required..

    Other Skills and Ability:
  • Candidate must have strong communication skills and be a consummate "Team" player in their ability to bridge the Design Engineering and Manufacturing environments.
